1. Collection of Personal Data

To provide the best possible experience on Turtle AI, we collect certain types of data from our users:

Personal data you provide to us directly

  • Identity & Contact Data:When you create an account with us, we collect basic information such as your name, email address, and password. This information is used to identify you and provide personalized services.
  • Payment Information:We shall collect your payment information if you choose to purchase access to Turtle AI's Pro Plan.
  • Inputs & Outputs:Our AI services allow you to interact with the Services in a variety of formats ("Prompts" or "Inputs"), which generate responses ("Outputs") in the form of scientific visualizations and diagrams. If you include personal data in your Inputs, we will collect that information and this information may be reproduced in your Outputs.
  • Feedback:We appreciate feedback, including ideas and suggestions for improvement or rating an Output in response to an Input. If you rate an Output in response to an Input—for example, by using the thumbs up/thumbs down icon—we will store the entire related conversation as part of your Feedback. This helps us improve our models and provide better visualizations.
  • Communication Information:If you communicate with us, including via email or other support channels, we collect your name, contact information, and the contents of any messages you send.

Personal data we receive automatically

When you use the Services, we also receive certain technical data automatically (described below, collectively "Technical Information"). This includes:

  • Device and Connection:Your device type, operating system information, browser information, web page referers, mobile network, connection information, mobile operator or ISP, time zone setting, IP address (including location information), and device identifiers.
  • Usage Information:Data about how you interact with our services, including time, frequency, and duration of interactions.
  • Log Information:Information about how our Services are performing, including log files and error information.
  • Cookies & Technologies:We use cookies, scripts, or similar technologies to manage the Services and collect information about your usage. We use PostHog for analytics to understand user interactions and behaviors.

Personal data for model training

Turtle AI obtains personal data from third party sources to train our models, including:

  • Publicly available information via the Internet
  • Datasets obtained through commercial agreements
  • Data provided by users or crowd workers
  • Data generated internally

2. Uses of Personal Data

We use your data to:

  • Provide, maintain and facilitate any products and services offered to you with respect to your Turtle AI account
  • Communicate with you, including to send you information about our Services and events
  • Create and administer your Turtle AI account
  • Facilitate payments for products and services
  • Prevent and investigate fraud, abuse, violations of our Usage Policy, and unlawful activity
  • Investigate and resolve disputes and security issues
  • Debug and identify errors that impair functionality
  • Improve our Services and conduct research
  • Train our AI models (Refer to Section on Model Training)
  • Analyze usage patterns using PostHog to improve our services

3. Control Over Your Data

At Turtle AI, we value and respect your control over your data. You can delete your account and all associated data directly by contacting support@tryturtleai.com. You can also request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format by contacting us at support@tryturtleai.com.

To ensure the privacy of our Free Plan users, we automatically anonymize inputs and outputs used for model training after 90 days. This means the data will no longer be associated with your account.

4. How We Share Your Data

We may share personal data to the following categories of third parties for the purposes explained in this Policy:

  • Affiliates: Companies related to us.
  • Service Providers: Companies that help us operate Turtle AI (e.g., hosting, analytics, customer support), including PostHog who are used for understanding user interaction.
  • Legal Authorities: If required by law.

We recommend that you review the privacy policies of any third-party services you may use in conjunction with Turtle AI, such as PostHog.

5. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Know what data we process about you
  • Access and get a copy of your data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your data
  • Object to processing
  • Restrict processing
  • Withdraw consent
  • Opt-out of receiving marketing emails by clicking the unsubscribe link in those emails

6. Data Transfers

We may transfer your data to servers in the United States or other countries. We ensure adequate data protection through the use of Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

7. Data Retention and Security

We retain your personal data for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes outlined in this policy. Generally, we retain account information for as long as your account is active.

We understand the sensitivity of your personal information and implement strict security measures to safeguard it. We store your information on secure servers, and access is strictly limited to a small number of authorized personnel who are required to keep the information confidential. Furthermore, we review and update our security measures on a regular basis.

Notice On Model Training

At Turtle AI, we are dedicated to creating a powerful and user-friendly scientific visualization tool while being transparent about how we train our AI models.

Data Sources: We primarily train our models on curated data sources specifically designed for scientific and technical content.
User Data Usage:
Free Plan Users: By using the Free Plan, you acknowledge that your anonymized Inputs and Outputs may be used to train and improve our AI models. We analyze this data to understand trends in diagram creation and to identify areas where our models can be improved.
Pro Plan Users: If you are a pro-plan user, we may use your anonymized Inputs and Outputs to better provide diagram types or what to teach the model, but not the actual material.

Anonymization: Before we use any data for training, we take steps to anonymize it. This involves removing any personally identifiable information.
